FOG slogan

Hey, Kids … Help Stop the Clog!

What do pizza, peanut butter, salad dressing, meat scraps and margarine have in common? They’re food, right? But, there’s another thing they have in common … they’re greasy, fatty foods known as FOG (fats, oil and grease), and they’re all bad for the pipes in your house and streets.

Why? When poured down the drain, FOG cools, turns solid and sticks to the insides of sewer pipes. Over time, the FOG buildup blocks sewer pipes. When that happens, it causes a gross, sewer backup or overflow in your house or onto neighborhood streets. These messes are smelly, dirty and bad for our environment!

Beat the FOG clog! Dispose of fatty, greasy foods the right way!

  • Instead of tossing your burger in the sink, scrape it off your plate into the trash.
  • You should do this with all FOG and food scraps before washing your dishes or placing them in the dishwasher. If you help with the dishes, use a sink strainer when washing off plates, bowls and pans. This will help catch fatty leftover food.
  • And, most importantly, NEVER pour FOG down the drain! With your parent’s help:
    • let the FOG cool
    • pour it back into its original container or another sealable container like a soup can
    • once it becomes solid, put the container in the trash.

Are you ready to stop the clog? Challenge yourself and find these FOG offenders!
